Removal ("E" & "K" Bodies)

  1. Raise and support vehicle on frame contact type hoist. Remove wheel. If working on left control arm, disconnect ELC height sensor link (if equipped). Disconnect speed sensor from knuckle if equipped with anti-lock brake system.
  2. On all models, remove stabilizer bar mounting bolt at strut (if equipped). Install 2 lug nuts to hold rotor on hub. Remove brake caliper.
  3. Loosen outboard knuckle pivot bolt at control arm. DO NOT remove pivot bolt. Remove strut rod cap, mounting nut, retainer and upper insulator. Compress strut by hand. Remove lower insulator.
  4. Remove inner control arm nuts. Support knuckle and control arm. Support knuckle and remove inner control arm bolts. Remove control arm, knuckle, strut, hub and rotor as an assembly. Raise vehicle and place jack stand under outboard end of spring.
    WARNING: Ensure jack stand will withstand vehicle weight. Securely position jack stand under spring to prevent personal injury.
  5. Lower vehicle to compress spring on jack stand. Remove spring retainer bolts, retainer and lower insulator from insulator on the supported end of spring.
  6. Slowly raise vehicle until spring pressure is released from the jack stand. Remove spring retainer bolts, retainer and lower insulator from retainer on opposite side of vehicle.
  7. Remove spring from rear suspension crossmember assembly through disassembled side of suspension. Remove upper spring insulators.
