Instrument Panel Self-Diagnostic Feature
In order to access and control the BCM Self-Diagnostic Feature, 2 additional electronic components are necessary. These 2 components are the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) and Electronic Comfort Control (ECC) panel. The IPC has a 20 character display area called the information center.
During normal operation the information center will display engine RPM. When a malfunction is sensed by the BCM, one of the driver warning messages will also be displayed in this area.
In order to enter diagnostics, the "OFF" and "WARMER" controls on the A/C panel should be depressed simultaneously for 2 seconds or longer. A diagnostic log will be displayed for the ECM and then for the BCM. The display will only show those codes that have been set. This communication process allows the BCM to transfer any of its available information to the instrument panel for display during service.
