Disc Calipers & Pads: Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1990 Pontiac Bonneville, 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood, and 1990 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Lubricate beveled end of mounting bolt bushing with silicone grease. Pinch bushing and install in caliper. Start beveled end into mounting bolt hole and push bushing through housing. See Fig 1 . Lubricate inside of bushing with silicone grease.
- Install inboard shoe in caliper with shoe retainer spring properly seated in caliper piston. Install outboard shoe in caliper with wear sensor at leading edge of pad with forward wheel rotation. Ensure spring buttons of outboard shoe are properly seated in caliper housing.
- Mount caliper and torque mounting bolts to 38 ft. lbs. (51 N.m). Check clearance between mounting bracket and caliper. File ends of bracket stops if necessary to provide proper clearance. See Fig 2 .
- Install inlet fitting (if removed) and torque to 33 ft. lbs. (45 N.m). Refill master cylinder to proper level.
