Master Cylinder: Disassembly
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1990 Pontiac Bonneville, 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, 1990 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight, 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood, and 1990 Cadillac DeVille. NOTE:
DO NOT remove quick take up valve from master cylinder. Valve is not serviceable separately.
- Remove reservoir cover and empty fluid from reservoir. Pump fluid from master cylinder by depressing piston with wooden dowel.
- Remove brake failure warning switch from reservoir. Remove proportioning valves. See Fig 1 . Depress primary piston with wooden dowel and remove lock ring. Remove primary piston, secondary piston, spring retainer and spring.
- If reservoir is damaged or removal is necessary, clamp master cylinder in vise by mounting flange. Remove reservoir using a pry bar. Do not remove quick take-up valve from cylinder as valve is not serviceable separately.
