Master Cylinder: Disassembly

NOTE: DO NOT remove quick take up valve from master cylinder. Valve is not serviceable separately.
  1. Remove reservoir cover and empty fluid from reservoir. Pump fluid from master cylinder by depressing piston with wooden dowel.
  2. Remove brake failure warning switch from reservoir. Remove proportioning valves. See Fig 1 . Depress primary piston with wooden dowel and remove lock ring. Remove primary piston, secondary piston, spring retainer and spring.
  3. If reservoir is damaged or removal is necessary, clamp master cylinder in vise by mounting flange. Remove reservoir using a pry bar. Do not remove quick take-up valve from cylinder as valve is not serviceable separately.
