Remove rear axle differential

- After completion of repair work, check the transmission oil level in the rear axle differential.
- Use only the approved final drive transmission oil.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
After the break-in phase of 2000 km, during which the running-in instructions for new vehicles apply, an oil change must be carried out in the rear axle differential!

Preliminary work
- Refer to REMOVING THE COVER OF THE CAMBER CONTROL ARM ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING THE REAR DIFFUSER .
- Removing the undershield on the left fuel tank.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Loosen screws (2).
- Remove the undershield (1) at the fuel tank on the left.
- Refer to REMOVING UNDERSHIELD ON THE FUEL TANK ON THE RIGHT .
- Refer to REMOVING REINFORCEMENT STRUT .
- Removing rear tunnel connecting support.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Loosen screws (2).
- Removing rear tunnel connecting support(3).
- Refer to REMOVING EXHAUST SYSTEM .
- Refer to REMOVING THE HEAT SHIELD AT THE REAR .
- Refer to RELEASING THE PROP SHAFT FROM THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL .
- Refer to RELEASING THE OUTPUT SHAFT ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT FROM THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL .

If the rear axle differential drops down, persons can be injured or the rear axle differential can be damaged.

- Secure the rear axle differential using a luggage strap.
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connections (1) and (2).
- Detach cable from the holders (3).
- Unfasten nut (1).
- Remove the ground strap (2).
Preparing the special tool
- Place the special tool 0 495 827 (23 4 150) onto the universal jack 2 219 012 .
- Support the rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 495 827 (23 4 150) .
- Secure rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206) on the special tool 0 495 827 (23 4 150) .
- Loosen nut (1) on the rear axle support at rear.
- Pull the bolt (1) out of the rear axle support.
- Loosen screws (1) rear axle support at front.
- Slightly lower the rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 495 827 (23 4 150) .
- Rotate the rear axle differential (1) slightly to the left in the direction of arrow and remove the left output shaft (2) at the same time.
- Remove the right output shaft (3).
- Tie up the output shafts (2) and (3).
- Completely lower the rear axle differential (1) and remove.
