Replacing the cushion for the front seat backrest

Preliminary work

- Removing side airbag from front seat.WARNING:

Danger! Immobilization period-threatening injuries!
- Before working on the airbag, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

- All work on pyrotechnic parts may be carried out by technically experienced and appropriately trained personnel only.
- Replace any damaged part or ones that have been dropped.

- Detach the backrest cover (1) in signaled area.
- Loosen clip (1).
- Detach the backrest cover (2) in this area (3).
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Cover the area around the rivet head (2).
- Drill out the rivet head (2).
- Remove the airbag module from the backrest frame and lining pocket (3) in the direction of the arrow.
- Fully remove rivet remnants.

NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The heating mat is glued to the foam pad and cannot be dismantled non-destructively.
When replacing the heating mat, a new one must always be installed with a new foam pad.

NOTE:

- Version with seat climate control:
Push the heating mat (1) and upholstery (2) towards the side.
Unclip the fan (3).
Replace the cushion (2).
Parts: Upholstery
- Version with seat climate control:
Clip the fan (1) into the cushion (2).
- Version with seat climate control:
If applicable, cut the support (1) to fit the upholstery (2).
Secure the support (1) to the Velcro fasteners (3).
- Version with seat heating:
Position the heating mat (1) on the cushion and align.
Bond the heating mat (1) with adhesive in the areas (2) with the cushion.

- Feed side airbag in the arrow direction into the backrest frame and the upholstery pocket (3).
- Make sure the guide (4) is positioned correctly.
- Renew the blind rivet (2)

- Secure the side airbag using the blind rivet (2).
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Attach the backrest cover (2) in this area (3).
- Insert the clip (1).
- Attach the backrest cover (1) in the signaled area.
