Removing the system battery

- Make sure that there is no charger connected to the jump start terminal in the engine compartment.
- Detach battery ground lead from battery.
- For auxiliary batteries: Detach battery minus cables from all auxiliary batteries.
Preliminary work
- Refer to DISCONNECTING ALL BATTERY GROUND LEADS .

- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Release nut (2) and screw (3).
- Remove battery rollover protection bracket (4).
- Unclip luggage compartment antenna (1) from cargo area floor (2).
NOTE:
RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to battery terminal, the safety battery terminal or the intelligent battery sensor (IBS) .
Damaged battery terminals can lead to malfunctions or vehicle electrical system faults .

- Detach battery terminal from battery pole by carefully shifting to and fro. Do not pry off using a tool.
- Remove the cover for the positive battery terminal (1).
- Slacken the nut below.
- Disconnect the positive battery terminal from the vehicle battery.

- Cover the vehicle battery.
- Unscrew the screw (2) and remove the battery carrier.
- Detach the vent hose (3).
- Remove the vehicle battery (4).
