Install chrome strip on outside door handle (for OE 322 and OE 4UR only)
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2023 BMW M5, 2022 BMW M5, 2021 BMW M5, 2020 BMW M5, and 2019 BMW M5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Betag Innovation welding set number 10030 is recommended for the repair.
- Check cover of outside door handle (1) for any excess paint in area (2) and remove if necessary.
This is the only way to guarantee correct installation of the chrome strip.
- Position chrome strip (1) on cover of outside door handle (2) as shown.
- Only outside door handle with lock cylinder.
- Carry out work on a clean underlay (to prevent scratches and pressure marks).
- Preheat soldering iron with the soldering tip shown (2) for approx. 10 minutes.
- Lightly press and hold the cover of the outside door handle on the underlay.
- Use light pressure when welding the welding pins (1) with the soldering tip (2) (Ø 10 mm), working from the inside outward.
After welding each welding pin, maintain pressure on the cover of the outside door handle for approx 5 seconds (welding pin cooling phase)
- Only outside door handle without lock cylinder.
- Carry out work as described in previous step, but note the changed position of the welding pins (1).
- Apply Sikaflex 221 sealant (approx. 1.5 g
) as shown.
- Insert plug connection of outside door handle electronics (TAGE) (1) on outside door handle (3).
- Install outside door handle electronics (TAGE) (1) and fiber-optic conductor (2) on outside door handle (3) as shown.
- Insert connector (1) on outside door handle (2).
- Secure connector (1) with appropriate adhesive in area (3).
- Assemble outside door handle (1) and outside door handle cover (2) and then lock.
- Tighten down screw (1).
- Install seal (1) on outside door handle (2) correctly.
