Removal & Installation: Starter: Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 22 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW 330i, 2005 BMW 330Ci, and 2005 BMW 325i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect and cover battery negative terminal. See BATTERY DISCONNECT PROCEDURE  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  2. Remove reinforcement plate on front axle support.
  3. Detach vacuum hoses (1 and 3) from vacuum tank (2) for exhaust flap fitted underneath starter motor. See Fig 1 . Remove vacuum tank.
  4. Unclip fuel line (1) from holders (2). See Fig 2 .
  5. Unlock plug (1) of crankshaft pulse generator and disconnect. See Fig 3 .
  6. Remove nut (1) and disconnect battery positive leads from starter motor. See Fig 4 .
  7. Remove nuts (1). See Fig 5 . Remove lines (2) from starter motor.
  8. Remove both starter motor-to-transmission mounting bolts (1). See Fig 6 . Remove starter mounting bolts from transmission output end with a long extension and a universal joint. Withdraw starter motor from transmission flange and remove towards bottom.
