Activating Air Bag System
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 173 other vehicles, including the 2003 Volvo XC90, 2003 Volvo XC70, 2003 Volvo V70, 2003 Volvo V40, and 2003 Volvo S80. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ensure ignition key is removed from switch. Connect negative battery cable.
- Staying well away from air bag modules, turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Ensure AIR BAG indicator light operates properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If equipped with a sliding roof, go to next step.
- When battery is disconnected sliding roof motor AUTO operation must be reset. To reset sliding roof motor, press the sliding roof switch on TILT UP side and hold it. When roof glass stops at the fully tilted-up position for one second, reset of the motor is completed. If the battery terminal is disconnected or after the jam protection function has operated, the ECU of the sliding roof motor may not detect the position of the roof glass.
- On ES300, always reset the sliding roof motor whenever the battery is disconnected. If not reset, the AUTO operation and jam protection function will not operate. Set sliding roof glass in to the fully tilt-up position. Push and hold the sliding roof switch UP until the sliding roof tilts down a little. Check that the sliding roof tilts up/down and slides open/close in AUTO operation. If the sliding roof is not in the correct position, press and hold the sliding roof switch UP and CLOSE until 10 seconds have passed after the roof stops moving or starts the reverse operation. The reset operation will be completed. If the jam protection function does not work, reset the sliding roof drive gear (motor) again.
- On GX470, if the AUTO operation function does not operate after reconnecting battery, reset the sliding roof motor as follows. Press sliding roof switch on TILT UP side and hold it. When the roof glass stops at the fully tilted-up position for one second, the reset of the motor is completed. If the battery terminal is disconnected or after the jam protection function has operated, the sliding roof motor ECU may not detect the position of the roof glass. If the AUTO operation function is still disabled even after the sliding roof motor is reset, the hall IC (built in the sliding roof motor assembly) for detecting the roof glass position may be malfunctioning.
- On IS300, sliding roof motor ECU must be reinitialized after reconnecting battery. Reinitialize sliding roof by moving the sliding roof to the maximum tilted position. Release the switch, press the switch again and hold it for 10 seconds. The sliding roof operates in a cycle of TILT DOWN, SLIDE OPEN, SLIDE CLOSE and TILT UP. This completes reinitializing.
NOTE:
If the AUTO operation function is still disabled even after the sliding roof motor is reset, the hall IC (built in the sliding roof motor assembly) for detecting the roof glass position may be malfunctioning.
