Disabling Air Bag System (Element)

NOTE:
Before removing a front air bag, side air bag, or other SRS related devices, disconnecting connectors from related devices, or removing the dashboard or the steering column, disconnect the air bag connectors or the side air bag connectors to prevent accidental deployment.
- The original radio has a coded theft protection circuit. Obtain radio theft code from owner and record frequencies for radio preset buttons before disconnecting the battery cable. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Wait at least 3 minutes before beginning installation or replacement of SRS unit, or disconnecting connectors from SRS unit.
- Before disconnecting SRS unit connector "A" from the SRS unit, remove lower access panel from the steering wheel, then disconnect driver's air bag 4-pin connector from the cable reel. Remove glove box, then disconnect front passenger's air bag 4-pin connector from dashboard wire harness "B". Disconnect driver's and passenger's seat belt tensioners 2-pin connector from the floor wire harness, located under each front seat.
- Before disconnecting SRS unit connector "B" from SRS unit, disconnect driver's and passenger's side air bags 2-pin connector and both seat belt buckle tensioners 4-pin connector. Before disconnecting cable reel 4-pin connector, disconnect driver's air bag 4-pin connector. Before disconnecting floor wire harness 4-pin connector, disconnect both seat belt tensioner 2-pin connectors.
