Remove airbag unit

- Before working on the airbag, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

- Make sure the position (angle and inclination) of the tool is correct.
- When unlocking, do not lever, but press in the Torx screwdriver only towards the center of the steering wheel.

Removing the airbag unit for the sports steering wheel
- Insert the Torx screwdriver T25 (1) diagonally upwards in the hidden opening (2) on the rear of the steering wheel until a springing kind of resistance can be felt.NOTE: To provide a better overview: Schematic diagram with airbag unit removed.
- Unlock the airbag unit, press Torx screwdriver T25 (1) diagonally upward in the arrow direction to the center of the steering wheel.
- Press the airbag unit thoroughly onto the steering wheel.
- With the Torx screwdriver T25 (1), press the wire spring (2) in direction of arrow towards the center of the steering wheel and release the lock (3).
(A): Wire spring (2) is unlocked.
- Press wire spring (4) with Torx screwdriver T25 (1) in the arrow direction towards the center of the steering wheel and release locks (5).
- Carefully raise the airbag unit.
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connections (1) and (2).
- Remove airbag unit (3).
Removing the airbag unit for the M Sport steering wheel
NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side. - Localize the mark (1) for unlocking the airbag unit on the steering wheel by feeling.NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Carefully cut the mark (1) with a knife (2) to approx. 4 mm length.NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Different variants may be installed depending on the vehicle equipment. - For vehicles with shift paddles (2) from CFRR use a Torx socket T15 (1) for unlocking the airbag unit.NOTE: To provide a better overview: Schematic diagram with airbag unit removed.
- Insert the Torx socket T15 (1) to the top at an angle until a springy resistance can be felt.
- Press the Torx socket T15 (1) straight in arrow direction to the center of the steering wheel to unlock the wire spring (2) or the airbag unit (A).
- Press the Torx screwdriver T15 (1) straight in the arrow direction and lift the airbag unit (2) on the unlocked side.
- Repeat the process on the left side and carefully release the airbag unit (2) from the steering wheel.
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1) and remove the airbag unit (2).
