Removing the engine from the automatic transmission (lifting table)

- It is imperative that protruding threads of the transmission bolts are checked for corrosion and damage prior to removal.
- It is imperative that all rust is removed from corroded threads and that they are cleaned prior to removal.
- Replace rusted and damaged bolts.

Sheared wires can cause a short circuit.

- Do not pull on wires when disconnecting connectors and plug connections.
- Unlock the clamp (1) and release it.
- Feed out coolant line (2) and place to one side.
- Release screws (3).
- Feed out and remove the reinforcement strut (4).
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Unlock plug connection (2) and disconnect.
- Loosen clamp (3).
- Unlock the clamp (1) and engage it in the displayed position.
- Unlock the locks (1) and bring to position.
- Release the screws (1) on the charge air line (2).
- Unlock the clamp (1) and engage it in the displayed position.
- Unlock the locks (1) and bring to position.
- Feed out and remove the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 1
to 3
.
- Unlock the clamp (1) and engage it in the displayed position.
- Unlock the locks (1) and bring to position.
- Feed out and remove the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 4 to 6 .
- Guide out charge air crossing (1) and remove.
- Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
- Release the clamps (arrows).
- Guide the automatic transmission wiring harness (2) out and set it aside.
- Insert the special tool 0 494 213 (24 2 390) in arrow direction in the sealing sleeve (1).
- Release the clamps (arrows).
- Guide the automatic transmission wiring harness (1) out and set it aside.
- Guide the positive battery cable (1) out of the clamps (2) and set it aside.
- Loosen screw (1).
- Fit special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) .

Damage to the engine.
If the engine is manually rotated in the wrong direction of rotation, the engine can be damaged.

If the engine is manually rotated in the wrong direction of rotation, the engine can be damaged.
- Only rotate the engine manually in the correct direction of rotation: a) clockwise when looking at the damper, or b) counterclockwise when looking at the chain drive. b) applies only if the timing chain is installed in the rear.
- Turn the engine by hand with the special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480).
- Turn the engine with the special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) on the vibration damper in the direction of rotation until the screw (1) becomes visible in the recess.
- Release all 6 screws (1) on the torque converter.
- Prepare special tool 0 494 451 (24 4 160) using special tool 0 494 622 (24 4 164) as shown.
- Remove sealing cap (1).
- Insert the special tool 0 494 451 (24 4 160) in the recess of the transmission housing and lightly fix it with the screw (1).
- Screw the bolt (2) in to the stop.
- Tighten down screw (1).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Guide out and remove holder (2).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Loosen the transmission bolt (2).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Slide the panel (B) in the arrow direction and push the automatic transmission (1) aside.

- Feed out and remove the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 1
to 3
.
- Unlock the clamp (1) and engage it in the displayed position.
- Unlock the locks (1) and bring to position.
- Feed out and remove the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 4 to 6 .
- Guide out charge air crossing (1) and remove.
- Unlock the lock (1) in arrow direction.
- Guide out the connector (2) in the arrow direction and set it aside.
- Unlock plug connection (3) and disconnect.
- Release the clamps (4).
- Feed out the transmission wiring harness (5) and set it aside.
- Insert the special tool 0 494 213 (24 2 390) in arrow direction in the sealing sleeve (1).
- Release clamps (1).
- Guide the automatic transmission wiring harness (2) out and set it aside.
- Feed out the positive battery cables (1) from the clamps (2) and set aside.
- Loosen screw (1).
- Thread out transmission oil line (2) and set aside.
- Catch and dispose of escaping transmission oil.
- Secure the prop shaft (1) from falling with the commercially available tool (2) on the automatic transmission (3).
- Remove screws (arrows).
- Fit special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) .

as shown.
- Remove sealing cap (1).
- Insert the special tool 0 494 451 (24 4 160) in the recess of the transmission housing and lightly fix it with the screw (1).
- Screw the bolt (2) in to the stop.
- Tighten down screw (1).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Guide out and remove holder (2).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Loosen the transmission bolt (2).
- Unscrew the transmission bolts (1).
- Slide the panel (B) in the arrow direction and slide the automatic transmission (1) to the side.
