Installing the engine on the automatic transmission (lifting table)
Damage to the automatic transmission/impeller.
When disconnecting the engine and transmission, the torque converter can become loose! Failure to observe the correct installation positions of the torque converter may lead to damage to the impeller driver.
- Make sure that the torque converter is in the correct installation position before installing the automatic transmission.
- Check the installation dimension between the contact surfaces (1) and the outer edge (2) of the threaded hole of the torque converter with the special tool 0 490 189 (00 2 550).

Clean all threads with a screw tap.

- Mark screwing depth (A) on the thread cutter (1) from the special tool set 2 285 059 with a commercially available tool (2).

- Screw in the thread cutter (1) from the set of special tools 2 285 059 until the screw-in depth is reached.

- Check the fitting sleeves (1) for a correct fit as well as for damage and replace if necessary.
Damage of the flywheel and automatic transmission.
A non-horizontal fit during the removal and installation of the automatic transmission can lead to damage on the automatic transmission or flywheel.
- Align the automatic transmission completely horizontal to the engine during the removal and installation.
- Check for correct alignment before tightening the transmission bolts.
- Align the automatic transmission (1) horizontally to the engine (2).
- Slide the panel (B) in arrow direction on the panel (A).
- Position the automatic transmission (1) on the engine.
- Turn the torque converter until the bore of the torque converter is aligned with the bore of the flywheel.
- Tighten the transmission bolt (1) hand-tight.
- Tighten the transmission bolts (1) hand-tight.
- Tighten the transmission bolt (2) hand-tight.
- Feed in and position the holder (2).
- Hand-tighten the transmission bolts (1).
- Hand-tighten the transmission bolts (1).
- Tighten the transmission bolts in the sequence (1) to (9).

- Release screw (1) and screw (2).
- Remove the special tool 0 494 451 (24 4 160)

- Fit special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) .
Damage to the engine.
If the engine is manually rotated in the wrong direction of rotation, the engine can be damaged.
- Only rotate the engine manually in the correct direction of rotation: a) clockwise when looking at the damper, or b) counterclockwise when looking at the chain drive. b) applies only if the timing chain is installed in the rear.
- Turn the engine by hand with the special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480).
- Replace screws.

- Turn the engine in the direction of rotation using special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) on the vibration damper to tighten all 6 screws (1).
- Tighten all 6 screws (1) of the torque converter using special tool 0 491 667 (24 1 110) .

- Install the sealing cap (1).
- Remove the special tool 0 494 213 (24 2 390) from the sealing sleeve in the arrow direction.
Improper routing of cables and wiring harnesses.
Trapped, crushed or damaged cables may cause short circuits and malfunctions.
- Route all cables without abrasions, do not trap and crush.
- Feed in and position the automatic transmission wiring harness (2).
- Secure the clamps (arrows).
- Connect connectors (1) and lock.
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
Improper routing of cables and wiring harnesses.
Trapped, crushed or damaged cables may cause short circuits and malfunctions.
- Route all cables without abrasions, do not trap and crush.
- Feed in and position the automatic transmission wiring harness (1).
- Secure the clamps (arrows).
Risk of short circuits!
- Route the positive battery cable without abrasions and do not trap.
- Fasten the positive battery cable (1) in the clamps (2).

- Make sure that there are guide sleeves (1) and they have been installed correctly.
- Make sure that there are guide sleeves (1) and they have been installed correctly.
- Insert and position the charge air line (1).
- Check the seal (1) of the charge air duct (2) for damage, replace if necessary.
Replacing the damaged seal
Use of sharp or pointy tools for installation or removal is prohibited.
- Remove damaged seal.
- Clean the gasket groove (1) with a dry cloth.
The gasket groove (1) must be clean.
- Replace gasket.

- Install the seal dry without lubricant or mounting agent.
Incorrect assembly is possible. Ensure correct installation position.
- Thread in seal and install.
- Make sure that the seal is installed correctly in the gasket groove (1).
- Make sure that the sealing lip (2) is directed to the inside as shown.
- Connect and lock the charge air duct (1).
The charge air duct (1) must engage audibly.
- Connect and lock connectors (1) and (2).
The connectors (1) and (2) engage audibly.
- Secure the clamp (3).
- Check seal (1) for damage, replace if necessary.
- Feed in and install the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 4
to 6

The locks (1) must engage audibly.
- Feed in and install the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 1
to 3
.
The locks (1) must engage audibly.
- Tighten the screws (1) on the charge air line (2).

- Guide in and position reinforcement strut (4).

- Guide in the coolant line (2) and install it.
- Secure the clamp (1).
Damage to the transmission.
Damage to the transmission due to unapproved transmission oil.
- Use only the approved transmission oil.
- Check the transmission oil level after completing the repair.
Damage to the automatic transmission/impeller.

- Install the sealing cap (1).

- Route the positive battery cable without abrasions and do not trap.
- Fasten the positive battery cable (1) in the clamps (2).

- Route all cables without abrasions, do not trap and crush.
- Feed in and position the automatic transmission wiring harness (2).
- Secure clamps (1).
- Remove the special tool 0 494 213 (24 2 390) from the sealing sleeve in the arrow direction.

- Feed in and position transmission wiring harness (5).
- Secure clamps (4).
- Connect connectors (3) and lock.
The connector (3) must engage audibly.
Feed in the connector (2) in the arrow direction and position it.
- Lock the lock (1) in the arrow direction
.
Lock (1) must engage audibly.
- Replace the sealing rings (1).

- Feed in and install the transmission oil line (2).
- Tighten down screw (1).

- Before installing the prop shaft on the front axle transmission, all 4 threads (1) in the front axle transmission flange must be freed of possible residue and contaminations and cleaned.
- Replace screws (1).

- A drop of Loctite 270 (2) must be given before the screw connection on each thread at the end of the respective screw (1).

- Feed in and position the prop shaft (1).
- Replace the bolts (arrows).

- Guide the commercially available tool (2) between the automatic transmission (3) and the prop shaft (1) and remove.
- Make sure that there are guide sleeves (1) and they have been installed correctly.

- Insert and position the charge air line (1).
- Check the seal (1) of the charge air duct (2) for damage, replace if necessary.
Replacing the damaged seal

- Feed in and install the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 4
to 6

- Feed in and install the charge air duct (2) for the cylinders 1
to 3

- Tighten the screws (1) on the charge air line (2).
