Install the front output shafts (on the mobile lifting table)

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Radial shaft seal ring are equipped with an installation protection ring. The installation protection ring is used to protect the sealing lip when installing the output shaft.

NOTE:
The figure shows the procedure for the front axle differential. The procedure for the bearing bracket is identical.
- Prepare the special tool 0 490 466 (00 5 010) with the special tools 0 494 649 (21 2 230) (without the screw) and 0 493 384 (11 1 212) .
- Pull out and remove the radial shaft seal (1) with the special tools 0 490 466 (00 5 010), 0 494 649 (21 2 230) and 0 493 384 (11 1 212).
- Remove the assembly protection ring (1) from the radial shaft sealing ring (2).
- Coat the housing of the sheet metal flange of the radial shaft seal with the approved front differential fluid.
- Drive in the radial shaft seal to the stop using special tool 0 493 539 (31 5 130) .
- Remove the special tool 0 493 539 (31 5 130) .
- Reinstall installation protection ring (1) in radial shaft seal (2).
Check
- Replace the circlip (1).

- Coat the contact surface (2) of the output shaft with the approved front axle transmission oil .
- Check the gearing for damage or deformation.
Result
» The gearing is deformed or damaged.
Measure
- Replace the output shaft.

- Clean and degrease front gearing of wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2).
- Install front gearing of wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2) and establish a positive connection.
- Twist both the wheel hub and the output shaft in arrow direction to ensure that the front gearings mesh.
- Loosen screws (2).
- Remove the swivel bearing mount (1) and set it aside.
- Suspend the swivel bearing from the workshop crane 2 220 718
.
- Fold open the assembly protection ring (1).
NOTE:
The figure shows the procedure for the front axle differential. The procedure for the bearing bracket is identical.
- Insert output shaft (1) in the bearing bracket in the arrow direction, but do not snap it in.
- Pull the lug of the installation protection ring (2) until one of the two predetermined breaking points yields.
- Pull out the installation protection ring (2) and dispose of it.
- Slide output shaft (1) into the bearing bracket up to the stop.
Output shaft (1) must engage perceptibly and audibly.
- Install the stand (2) of the swivel bearing (3).
- Tighten down screws (1).
- Replace the collar screw (1) and compression spring (2).

- Note installation position of compression spring (2).
- Keep the collar screw (1) and the front gearings of the wheel bearing and the output shaft clean and free of grease.
- Hand-tighten the collar screw (1) with the compression spring.
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The front gearing of the wheel bearing and output shaft must be installed in an interlocking position (tooth-in-tooth).

- Twist wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2) in the opposite directions to check whether the front gearing teeth (arrows) mesh.
- Verify positive locking.
- Press brake pedal.
- Tighten the collar screw.
