Checking the VANOS adjuster of cylinder bank 1

Check

Check the lock of intake adjuster and exhaust camshaft adjuster.
Position the open-end wrench (1) on the hexagon of the camshafts.
Move the open-end wrench back and forth a little in the arrow direction.

The camshafts must be connected with the VANOS adjusters (2) with frictional connections.

» Camshafts are connected to the VANOS adjusters (2) with frictional connections.

Measure

Continue the repair with the next step.

Result

» If there is no frictional connection, the relevant adjuster must be replaced.

Measure

Replace the affected VANOS adjuster.

Measure

Check timing again.
