Wheel Bearing: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 34 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If applicable, install guard plate. See Figure.
  2. CAUTION: Do not use a bearing unit again once it has been removed.
  3. Fit a new dust guard plate (2). Screw in guide sleeve (1) of special tool (31 2 110) for entire length of threads and pull on new bearing unit. See Fig 1.
  4. Replace collar nut and tighten down with special tool (31 2 080). See Figure.
  5. CAUTION: Lock collar nut. Calk on flat area in axle stub.
  6. Tighten collar nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  7. Replace sealing cap. Coat edge (mating surface to wheel hub) over entire circumference with sealing compound, and fit sealing cap. See Fig 2.
  8. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
