Drive Axle Shafts (Rear, 2 Wheel Drive Models): Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 120 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Pull in output shaft using special tools (33 2 115/116/119). See Fig 1.
  2. On M3, use special tools (33 2 115/116/118). See Fig 2.
  3. On all models, install axle shaft to vehicle, positioning inner CV joint on final drive flange. Install CV joint-to-final drive flange bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Coat threads and contact face of NEW collar (hub) nut with oil and install nut. Secure by caulking at flat area of output shaft. Tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Install NEW collar nut retaining plate and install hub dust cover. On Z3, drive in new retaining plate with special tool (33 1 020). See Fig 3.
  6. Install rear wheel.
