CV Joint Boot (Rear): Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 120 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage new dust covers. Protect them from the sharp edges on the splined shaft with a suitable sleeve. Keep Loctite out of ball surfaces.
NOTE:
Do not mix up the thicker axle shaft and joints for the BMW 325i.
- Slide NEW rubber boot and clamps over axle shaft. Coat axle shaft splines with Loctite No. 270 and press NEW CV joint onto axle with special tool 33 2 130. See Fig 1.
- Install NEW circlip holding inner CV joint-to-axle.
- Pack CV joint with specified amount of lubricant supplied in kit. See CV JOINT LUBRICANT CAPACITY .
- Apply Bostik No. 1513 or a suitable sealant to inner sealing surface on large end of NEW rubber boot and mount boot on CV joint.
- Secure large end of rubber boot to CV joint with NEW clamp. Fastener of large hose clamp must be located between two bore holes of constant velocity joint.
- Apply Bostik No. 1513 or a suitable sealant to CV joint dust cover and install onto CV joint.
- Install axle shaft to vehicle. See DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS (REAR) .
