Removal (Wheel side Joint)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 120 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

NOTE: When replacing, use a complete CV joint boot repair kit. Kit will include a new boot, clamps, special lubricant and inner CV joint circlip.

Remove axle shaft. See DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS (FRONT, ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES) .
Clean axle shaft.
Grip axle shaft (1) in vise with protective jaws, wheel side joint (2) and transmission side (3). See Fig 1.
Release retainers (1, 2) and pull back boot (3). See Fig 2.
Press off joint (1) via contact pressure of retaining ring on shaft (2). See Fig 3.
Lever out retaining ring (1). See Fig 4.
Pull off boot over splined shaft and carefully clean all parts with a cloth.
