Removal (Transmission Side Joint)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 120 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When replacing, use a complete CV joint boot repair kit. Kit will include a new boot, clamps, special lubricant and inner CV joint circlip.
  1. Remove axle shaft. See DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS (FRONT, ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES) .
  2. Clean axle shaft.
  3. Grip axle shaft (1) in vise with protective jaws, wheel side joint (2) and transmission side (3). See Figure.
  4. Release retainers (1, 2) and pull back gaiter (3). Detach tulip element (4). See Fig 1.
  5. Remove retaining ring (1). Detach tripod star (2) from splined shaft (3). See Fig 2.
  6. Carefully clean all parts with a cloth.
