CV Joint Boot (Front - All Wheel Drive Models): Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 120 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Regrease constant velocity joint with fresh grease (contained in kit).
  2. Install boot over shaft and install new retaining ring.
  3. Push on joint until retaining ring can be heard to snap into place.
  4. Install retainers.
  5. Install axle shaft. See DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS (FRONT, ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES) .


  1. Note installation position of tripod star (1). Install flat side (2) of tripod star to retaining ring. See Fig 1.
  2. Before pushing boot onto splined shaft, assemble boot (1) and boot adapter (2). See Fig 2.
  3. Regrease constant velocity joint (tripod star) with fresh grease (contained in repair kit).
  4. Install new retaining ring.
  5. Attach retainers.
  6. Install axle shaft. See DRIVE AXLE SHAFTS (FRONT, ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES) .
