WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2000 BMW Z3, 2000 BMW 328i, 2000 BMW 323i, 1999 BMW Z3, and 1999 BMW M3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
When ignition is turned on, AIR BAG warning light illuminates with other instrument panel lights. If no faults are sensed in the SRS, the warning light will go out after about 6-10 seconds with engine off, or go out immediately when engine is started. If AIR BAG warning light remains on, this indicates a fault in SRS. When vehicle is moving, SRS control unit informs driver of any faults in SRS by flashing AIR BAG warning light for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the AIR BAG warning light will remain on until fault is repaired and SRS control unit defect fault code memory is cleared. If AIR BAG warning light fails to illuminate when ignition switch is turned on, this indicates bulb is faulty and/or wire circuit to bulb is shorted to ground.
