WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Avoid area near steering wheel and instrument panel even if air bags have deployed. Dual-stage air bag modules may be present that could contain an undeployed stage. When disposing of a deployed dual-stage air bag, always treat it as a "live" module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Contact reel; Ignition wiring to passenger module; Seat belt units; Sensor module(1); Steering wheel; SIPS (sensor module, ignition circuit & bag module)(2); Instrument panel & frame; Instrument panel speakers; Knee bolster & brackets; Panels under instrument panel; Windshield & moulding; Seat belts & mounting points; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs.; Visually inspect SIPS & seats in event of minor collisions without deployment.;
(1) Replace if fault code cannot be erased or if there is damage in the area of the sensor module.
(2) Except C70 Coupe.
Volvo-2

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Contact reel; Crash sensor; Deployed seat belt pretensioners (if equipped); Steering wheel; Crash sensor mounting bracket; Wiring harness; Seat belts & mounting points; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs.; If fault code 1 is displayed, the crash sensor must be replaced.;
Volvo-3

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Passenger-side air bag module ignition cable (if equipped); Contact reel; Seat belts & deployedseat belt pretensioners; Air bag control unit(1); Steering wheel; Instrument panel & frame; Seat back upholstery, foam filling & protective pad(3); Instrument panel and frame; Instrument panel speakers; Knee bolster & brackets; Panels under instrument panel; Windshield & bonding; Seat belts & mounting points; Seat back frame; Side air bag module & seat rail; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs.(2);
(1) Replace if fault code cannot be erased or if there is damage in the area of the air bag control unit.
(2) On S80 models, wiring repairs are only to be performed in specific areas.
(3) If side air bag module has deployed.

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Passenger-side air bag module ignition cable (if equipped); Contact reel; Seat belts & deployedseat belt pretensioners; Air bag control unit(1); Steering wheel; Instrument panel & frame; Whiplash protection system (if equipped); Seat back upholstery, foam filling & protective pad(2); Headliner(3); A-, B-& C-pillar trim panels(3); Windshield & bonding(4); Instrument panel and frame; Instrument panel speakers; Knee bolster & brackets; Panels under instrument panel; Windshield & bonding; Seat belts & mounting points; Seat back frame; Side air bag module & seat rail; A-, B-, C- & D-pillar trim panels(3); Rear seat assembly(4); Wiring can be repaired only at the following locations: A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar, D-pillar, steering column duct and by side of A-C-heater unit.;
(1) Replace if fault code cannot be erased, if there is damage to body in area of air bag control unit or control unit is mechanically damaged.
(2) If side air bag module has deployed.
(3) On S40 & V40, replace components if module has deployed. On S60, S80 & V70, inspect and replace components as necessary if module has deployed.
(4) On S40 & V40 if curtain air bag deploys.
Volvo-5

Replace After Deployment Inspect & If Damaged Replace Component (Even If Air Bag Did Not Deploy) Comments
Deployed air bag modules; Front impact sensors(1); Side impact sensors(2); Seat belts & deployed seat belt pretensioners; Air bag control unit; Whiplash protection system (if equipped); Contact reel; Front impact sensors; Side impact sensors; Instrument panel and frame; Instrument panel speakers; Knee bolster & brackets; Panels under instrument panel; Headliner; Interior trim panels; Seat belts & mounting points; Seat back frame; Seat rail; DO NOT attempt SRS wiring repairs.;
(1) Replace following frontal impact.
(2) Replace following side impact on side of impact.
