51 48 ... Removing And Installing/Replacing Sound Insulation In Left Or Right Front Door (Convertible, Coupe)

- 00 9 317
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Remove front door trim. Refer to 51 41 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR TRIM PANEL (COUPE, CONVERTIBLE) .
- If necessary, remove airbag module in front door. Refer to SIDE AIR BAG MODULE for model year 2001, or SIDE AIR BAG MODULE for model year 2002, or SIDE AIR BAG MODULE for model year 2003, or SIDE AIR BAG MODULE for model year 2004-05.
Lever out sealing bead (1) of sound insulation (2) with special tool 00 9 317.
NOTE:
Work with particular care in lower area otherwise sound insulation (2) will tear and must be replaced (leakage).
IMPORTANT:
In case of replacement or partial detachments, lay 6 mm dia. butylene tape depending on the conditions on inner door panel or sound insulation. Seal cable penetrations with butylene tape. Sound insulation must be bonded completely (i.e. without interruption) with butylene tape, otherwise moisture will get into the passenger compartment (leakage). NOTE:
Position of butylene tape (1) on inner door plate.
NOTE:

IMPORTANT:
When Working With Adhesive Cleaners In Enclosed Rooms:
Ensure room is well ventilated. Adhesive areas must be dry and free of dust and grease. After cleaning, do not touch the adhesive areas with bare hands (leakage).
If necessary, clean the specified adhesive area with adhesive cleaner.
Air drying time: 1 minute.
Lay 6 mm dia. butylene tape in specified adhesive area.
Heat butylene tape (hot air blower) and press down firmly on sound insulation all round.
Contact pressure with hand roller: approx. 30 N/cm2 .
Manual contact pressure: approx. 10 N/cm2 .
NOTE:
Firm thumb pressure has approx. 50 N/cm2
