Caliper Assembly: Removal

- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel(s).
- Lift out retaining spring (1). See Fig 1.
- Disconnect pad wear sensor electrical lead. On the rear it is on the right side. On the front it is on the left.
- Remove plastic plugs (2). See Fig 2.
- Lift brake hose out of bracket.
- Release guide screws located under plastic plugs with special tool (34 1 080). Withdraw brake caliper backwards.
- Turn piston fully back with special tool 34 1 050. See Fig 4.
- Remove outer brake lining. See DISC LINING .
- Clean contact faces (1,2) of brake lining hammer heads/brake caliper housing and coat with anti-squeak compound. See Fig 5.
- Clean contact face (3) of brake caliper and apply a thin coating of anti-squeak compound. See Fig 6.
- Clean brake caliper mounting bracket at hammer head guides and apply a thin coating of anti-squeak compound.
NOTE:
When forcing piston back, observe brake fluid level in supply tank. Overflowing brake fluid will damage the paintwork.
NOTE:
Grease contact surfaces on brake caliper at top and bottom.
