Check exhaust system for tightness

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Observe the following during the leakage test of the exhaust system:
A technically flawless and correctly installed exhaust system is not completely tight.
Components of the exhaust system, such as rear silencers, mufflers, exhaust flaps, flanges or weld seams show slight leaks.
When warm, the exhaust system seals better than when cold.
The leaks mentioned above do not represent a technical fault in the exhaust system.
Leakage test of the exhaust system is used to identify leaks that go beyond this normal level. These include, for example, torn weld seams, faulty flexible pipes, damaged seals or leaky sensors.
Observe the following during the leakage test of the exhaust system:

Precondition
- The entire exhaust system must have cooled down.
- So many special tools 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 409 665 are available, such as the number of exhaust tailpipes on the vehicle to be tested
- Position the bellows 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 409 665
straight in the exhaust tailpipe (1).
Repeat the process on all exhaust tailpipes.
- Tighten the knurled screw (2).
- Inflate the bellows 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 409 665
by using a hand pump (3).CAUTION: The exhaust system is pressurized.
Injury hazard!- Bellows in the exhaust tailpipe could come loose and fly out of the exhaust tailpipe.
- Do not stay in the area behind the exhaust tailpipes during the leakage test.
- Turn the knurled wheel (5) in completely.
- Move the sliding piece (2) to the left up to the stop.
- Connect the bellows 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 409 665 with the pressure reducer 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 285 501 by using a hose (1).
- Connect the compressed air hose (4) to the pressure reducer 0 495 588 (16 1 080) 285 501 .
- Turn the knurled wheel (5) slowly as far until a pressure of 0.4 bar is displayed on the pressure gauge (3).
- Move the sliding piece (2) slowly to the right up to the stop.
- Leak may be acoustically perceptible in the exhaust system.
- If necessary, use leak detector.
