Installing The Roof Outer Skin

Apply sealant in the areas (1).

Apply adhesive to the bonding surfaces (1).
ADHESIVE SPECIFICATION

Body adhesive K5 195 ml 83195A59935

Place roof outer skin with helpers evenly and centrally on vehicle and adjust to fit.

Fix roof outer skin with the securing tools 2 469 797 .

NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Hardening times for adhesive K5 (non-structural bonded connection):
The fixing tools must remain in the vehicle for at least 4 h.
Do not shift the vehicle during this period. Only then is it permitted to proceed with subsequent installation work.
The strength for driving is reached after 48 hours hardening time at (15°C) object temperature.
After 10 h hardening time at (23°C) object temperature.
After 1 h hardening time at (60°C) object temperature.

Observe the hardening time of the adhesive.
Remove securing tools only after adhesive has hardened.
In area (1), rivet the roof outer skin with 10 punch rivets.

Weld the roof outer skin in area (2).

Level out leaked adhesive in the area (1) at all 4 corners of the roof outer skin (2) by spreading.
No sharp edges should be left behind, otherwise the subsequent bonding of the front and rear windows could show a leakage.
Spread excess adhesive in roof trim strip channel. The mounting surfaces of the mounting elements of the roof trim strips must not be coated with adhesive.
Remove excess adhesive. For that do not use any cleaning agent or solvent!

Install EMC screw with M5 thread

Drill the hole with a diameter of 4.2 mm after the adhesive completely hardens.
Use a high-strength drill.

Twist drill, high-strength ø4.2 mm, Length: 66 mm 83192359263

Cut M5 thread.
Screw in the EMC screw.

Seal the EMC screw with the sealant.

NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.

After the adhesive has hardened, install an EMC screw (arrow) according to dimension (a).
Dimension (a) = 143 mm from the corner of the roof outer skin.

Sealing the roof outer skin

NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.

Seal the roof outer skin with sealant (1) on both side frames in a similar way to series production.
