Preparing New Part
Adhesive technology in the area of the outer skin (not for structural adhesion):
The bonding surfaces of the new parts may not sharpened or ground.

- Apply an adhesive residue of 0.5 mm in area (1)
. Do not damage the primed surface when doing so.
Minor damage up to 5 mm or scratches can be ignored.
- In case of major damage to the primer (greater than 5 mm), proceed as follows:
- Pre-clean the contaminated area with a cleaning agent R2.

The adhesive flange area must not be painted over when the roof frame is being repaired or renewed. - Apply adhesive K5to the bare areas with a spatula or a brush. Apply a uniformly thin layer (maximum 0.5 mm).
The roof outer skin can be bonded after a curing period of 24 h at a minimum temperature of 15°C.

Heavy component .
Heavy components can lead to injury or damage .- Remove and install heavy components with the aid of another person/other persons.
- Before attaching the special tools to the new part, note the following:
- Ensure that the surfaces of the suction lifter and the new part are clean.
- Check the suction lifter for damage. Do not use damaged suction lifters!
- Position the new part for attaching the special tools immediately next to the vehicle to avoid long distances to the vehicle.
- Attach 4 x special tool 2 184 377
to the new panoramic glass sunroof as shown.
- While lifting the new part, note the following:
- Secure the working area.
- There should be no one underneath the new part while lifting it.
- Ensure that the lifting time is as short as possible.
- Attach special tools 2 184 377, 0 496 817 (54 0 070) and 0 496 810 (54 0 050) to the new panoramic glass sunroof as shown.
- Use lifting gear and workpiece carrier only in conjunction with the BMW WJN.10 workshop crane (special lifting arm with an arm length of 1690 mm - see BMW Workshop Equipment Catalogue) or a comparable crane with comparable specifications.
- Adjust the panoramic glass sunroof on the vehicle with 3 auxiliary persons.
- Align the panoramic glass sunroof to the front edge on the front roof brace.
- Fit the rear window and the roof trim strip for checking the correct installation position of the panoramic glass sunroof.
- Adjust the securing devices and locking pliers prior to installation to adhere to the processing time of 15 min after applying the adhesive.
Mounting and adjusting the securing tool for the roof outer skin
- Variant with M7 rivet nut:
Pull out the hold-down device (1) before installation by turning it until it reaches the same dimensions as shown.
Position the securing tool 2 469 797 over the rivet nut (2) .
Join the M7 screw (3) and tighten by hand until the roof outer skin rests on the roof frame.
- Variant with mounting hole for mounting the roof rack:
Pull out the hold-down device (2) before installation by turning it until it reaches the same dimensions as shown.
Position the securing tool 2 469 797 over the mounting hole.
Join the M7 screw connection (1) (screw, 2 washers and nut) and hand-tighten it until the roof outer skin rests on the roof frame.
- Position the securing devices and locking pliers only on moldings (1)
in the adhesive flange area of the roof outer skin to guarantee the correct distance and thus the correct amount of adhesive between the roof outer skin and the roof frame.
- Fix the panoramic glass sunroof at 4 areas with securing devices 2 469 797
.
- Fix the panoramic glass sunroof in the area of the windscreen and the rear window with locking pliers (1) . Slightly preload the locking pliers.
- Release the securing devices and locking pliers and remove the panoramic glass sunroof.
