Lowering rear axle differential

Damage to rear axle differential .
If the rear axle differential drops down, persons can be injured or the rear axle differential can be damaged .

Removing the vibration absorber

NOTE: The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.

Loosen screw (2).
Remove the vibration absorber (1).

Place the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) onto the universal jack 0 490 133 (00 2 030) .
Support the rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .
Secure the rear axle differential (1) with a luggage strap 0 496 080 (33 5 206) on the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .

Loosen nut (1) on the rear axle support at rear .
Pull out screw.

Loosen screws (1) rear axle support at front.

Lower rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) only enough so that the lid on the rear axle differential is accessible.
During lowering, twist the adjustment screw (2) to slightly raise the rear axle differential at the front.

Secure the rear axle differential using a luggage strap.

NOTE: The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.

Release the screw (1).
Release the holder (2) with the ground cable (3) from the rear axle differential.

Attach the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) on the special tool 0 490 133 (00 2 030) .
Support the rear axle differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .
Secure the rear axle differential with the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206) on the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .

Slightly lower the rear axle differential (1) with the special tools 0 496 009 (33 5 200) and 0 490 133 (00 2 030) .

Lower the rear axle differential (1) slightly with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200) .
During lowering, twist the adjusting screw (2) to slightly raise the rear axle differential at the front.
