Remove tailgate trim panel

Fold the cover (1) towards the bottom
Remove the warning triangle (2)

Release the warning triangle brackets (1) at the detents (2) and remove them towards the bottom

NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical
Unclip the lugs (1)
Loosen expanding rivet (2)
To avoid damage, release the trim panel for the hinge of the trunk lid (4) without using a tool by jerking it along the hinge bracket and out of the clip fastening (3)

Unclip the clips (1) in the direction of the arrow using the special tool 0 490 534 (00 9 317)

Remove expanding rivets (1) from the tailgate trim panel (2)
Remove tailgate trim panel (2)
If installed: Unlock and disconnect the plug connection of the switch for the automatic tailgate operation
