- When working on the fuel system, make sure the workstation has sufficient ventilation, e.g., by means of extraction.
- Tightly seal off open lines and connections; collect any leakage fuel directly at the point of exit.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
- Open gas cap.
- Insert special tool 0 495 588 (16 1 080)
into the fuel filler neck.
Special tool 0 495 588 (16 1 080) has two different diameters: For gasoline and for diesel fuel.
- Slide the suction hose (1)
of the extractor unit into the fuel filler neck using the special tool 0 495 588 (16 1 080)
(see applicable BMW equipment catalogue). If necessary, slightly turn the suction hose.
The insertion length of the suction hose is 125 cm.
- Start the engine and run it in order to run the electric fuel pump.
As a result, the fuel is pumped from the left to the right side of the fuel tank through the ejector pump.
- Draw off fuel with the extractor unit as far as possible. While doing this, follow the extraction of the fuel on the fuel gauge in the instrument cluster.
