Remove tailgate trim panel
- Fold the cover (1) towards the bottom.
- Remove the warning triangle (2).
- Release the warning triangle brackets (1) at the detents (2) and remove them towards the bottom.NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
- Unclip the lugs (1).
- Loosen expanding rivet (2).
- To avoid damage, release the trim panel for the hinge of the trunk lid (4) without using a tool by jerking it along the hinge bracket and out of the clip fastening (3).
- Unclip the clips (1) in the direction of the arrow using the special tool 0 490 534 (00 9 317)

- Remove expanding rivets (1) from the tailgate trim panel (2).
- Remove tailgate trim panel (2).
- If installed: Unlock and disconnect the plug connection of the switch for the automatic tailgate operation.
