Removing the gas pressure spring for hood

CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!

Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.

NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.

Preliminary work

Refer to REMOVING THE COVER OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT ON THE REAR LEFT OR RIGHT .

The notes on the disassembly and installation of ball sockets with clamps are the basis for these repair instructions and must be observed without fail.

Disassemble the ball sockets.
Observe disassembly sequence:
1. Use the screwdriver to slide the clamp in the direction of the groove.
2. Lift off the ball socket from the ball hub.
3. Push back the clamp.
4. Detach the ball socket from the ball hub.
