- It is imperative that protruding threads of the transmission bolts are checked for corrosion and damage prior to removal.
- It is imperative that all rust is removed from corroded threads and that they are cleaned prior to removal.
- Replace rusted and damaged bolts.

- Support the transmission using special tools 0 495 498 (23 4 050) and 2 219 012.
- Secure the transmission with a tensioning strap (1).
- Loosen screws (1).
- Loosen screw (2).
- Remove the transmission cross member (3).
- Version A:
Unscrew the bolts (1) on the transmission bearing support (2).
- Version B:
Unscrew the bolts (1) on the transmission bearing support (2).
- Loosen screws (1).
- Remove transmission mounting bracket (2) on the right transmission side.
- Unlock plug connection (2) and disconnect.
- Loosen screw (1).
- Guide out wiring harness section (3) of the supply module and set it aside.
- Remove screws (arrows).
- Secure the propeller shaft on the transmission with a strap.
- Unscrew the bolt (1) and disconnect the ground strap (2).
- Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1) from the transfer box control unit (longitudinal torque distribution) (2).
- Unscrew the screw connection (arrows) of the transfer box.
- Carefully pull off the transfer case with the front drive shaft.
It is imperative to prevent damage to the surface coating!
- Loosen nuts (1).
- Loosen screws (1).
- Remove the exhaust bracket (2).
- Loosen screw (1).
- Loosen screw (3).
- Disconnect hydraulic lines (2) to transmission oil cooler.
- Pull the expanding rivet (1) off.
- Remove the acoustic cover (2).
- Turn the engine with the special tool 0 493 380 (11 6 480) on the vibration damper in the direction of rotation until the screw (1) becomes visible in the recess.
- Release all 6 screws (1) on the torque converter.
- Prepare special tool 0 494 478 (24 4 161) (1) with the shaped part 0 494 965 (24 4 165) (2) as depicted.
- Remove sealing cap (1).
- Insert the special tool 0 494 451 (24 4 160) in the recess of the transmission housing and lightly fix it with the screw (1).
- Screw the bolt (2) in to the stop.
- Tighten down screw (1).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Notes on mechatronics are a fundamental requirement for these repair instructions and must be complied with at all times. - Unlock and detach connector (1) by turning in arrow direction.
- Do not touch pins.
- Loosen all cable clips.
- Insert the special tool 0 494 213 (24 2 390) in arrow direction in the sealing sleeve (1).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
If possible, use special tool 5A0C 1B9 to limit the tilting movement of the engine when removing the transmission.
Do not support in the area of the oil filter, oil drain plug or the oil level sensor! - Release the screws (1) on the front axle support.
- Align and install the special tool 5 A0C 1B9 on the front axle support.
- Hand-tighten the screws (1).
- Turn the knurled screw (2) until the plate (3) is in contact.
- Support engine.
- Remove screws (arrows).
- Remove transmission.
