Removing the airbag control unit
Preliminary work
- Refer to DEACTIVATE 48-V ELECTRICAL SYSTEM .
- Refer to DEACTIVATE VEHICLE-SPECIFIC HIGH-VOLTAGE OR LOW-VOLTAGE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM .
- Refer to REMOVING THE REAR CENTER CONSOLE TRIM .
- Refer to REMOVING THE CARPET ON THE CENTER CONSOLE ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES .
- Refer to PARTIALLY REMOVING THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT OF THE CENTER ARMREST .

- Before working on the airbag, disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
- Airbag unit may only be set down with the cushion (airbag itself) facing upwards.

- Leave the electrical components in their original packaging until they are being installed. Only use the original packaging for returning the product. Always package removed components straight away.
- Read and comply with user information on using the associated special tool 12 7 060.
- Only tap the housings of electrical components. Do not tap pins or multi-pin connectors directly.
- Wear electrically conductive clothing and antistatic shoes (with ESD symbol).

Removing drip protection cover from airbag control unit
NOTE:
The following step(s) must be performed if the specified component(s) is/are installed.
- Version with adhesive strip:
Remove adhesive strip (1) from airbag control unit (2).
- Variant with cover:
Feed out cover (1) from airbag control unit (2) and remove.
- Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.
- Loosen nuts (2).
- Remove airbag control unit (3).
