Installing the front driven shafts (on mobile lifting table)
NOTE:
Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.
NOTE:
Perform the steps on the left and right side.
- Loosen screws (2).
- Remove the swivel bearing mount (1) and set it aside.
- Suspend the swivel bearing from the workshop crane 2 220 718.
Replacing the driven shaft or circlip
NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
If the driven shaft is reused, the circlip must be replaced.NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Extreme force being required during installation is an indication that the component is damaged or deformed. Check component and replace if necessary. - Check the gearing of the output shaft for damage and replace damaged parts if necessary.
- Check dust plate (1) for damage and, if necessary, replace the damaged parts.
- If the driven shaft is reused, then replace the circlip (3).
- Coat contact surface (2) with an approved front axle differential oil.NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The front gearing of wheel bearing and driven shaft must be installed with a positive fit (tooth in tooth position). - Clean and degrease front gearing of wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2).
- Ensure a positive-locking connection by twisting the wheel bearing (1) and the driven shaft (2) in opposite directions.
- Install the front gearing of wheel bearing (1) and driven shaft (2) with a positive-locking connection in the arrow direction.
- Replace the screw (1) and the compression spring (2).
Parts: Screw, compression spring
- Clean and degrease the screw (1).
- Observe the installation position of the compression spring (2)!
Remove the radial shaft seal
- Pull out and remove the radial shaft seal (1) with the special tools 0 490 466 (00 5 010)
and 0 494 204 (24 2 353).
- Replace radial shaft seal (2).
Parts: Radial shaft seal
- Remove the assembly protection ring (1) from the radial shaft sealing ring (2).
Install the radial shaft seal
- Coat the housing of the sheet metal flange of the radial shaft seal with the approved front differential fluid.
- Drive in the radial shaft seal to the stop using the special tool 0 493 539 (31 5 130).
- Remove special tool 0 493 539 (31 5 130).
- Install the installation protection ring (1) in the radial shaft seal (2).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Radial shaft seal ring are equipped with an installation protection ring. The installation protection ring is used to protect the sealing lip when installing the output shaft. - Open the installation protection ring (1) in the arrow direction before assembly of the output shaft.
- Insert the output shaft (1) in the arrow direction.
- Loosen the assembly protection ring (2) guide it out a little.
- Apply force to pull the installation protection ring (2) downward in the arrow direction until the predetermined breaking points (3) on the installation protection ring break.
- Tilt the swivel bearing (2) slightly forward in the arrow direction.
- Insert the output shaft (3) into the front axle differential all the way to the stop until you feel the output shaft lock in place.
- Tighten screw (1) by hand.
- Install the stand (2) of the swivel bearing (3).
- Tighten down screws (1).
