Removing The Upper Part Of The Trunk Lid

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVE THE TOP TRIM FOR THE REAR WINDOW FRAME .
• Refer to REMOVING THE TRIM FOR THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE REAR WINDOW FRAMES .
• Refer to REMOVE THE POWER TAILGATE SWITCH .
• Refer to REMOVING TRUNK COMPARTMENT LIGHT ON TRUNK LID .
• Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
• Refer to REMOVE REAR SPOILER .

• Unlock and disconnect plug connections (1).
• Release the wiring harness and hose from the holders in the marked locations (arrowed).
• Loosen the rubber grommets (2) from the trunk lid and feed them through inwards.

• Unlock and disconnect the wiring harness plug connections (1).
• Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrowed) on the trunk lid.

• Unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
• Release the rubber grommet (2) from the trunk lid.
• Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrowed), unthread it from the trunk lid and put it aside.

• Unlock and disconnect the plug connections (arrows) of the wiring harness (1).

• Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrows).
• Release the rubber grommet (1) unthread the wiring harness from the tailgate frame and put it aside.

  CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid.
  Injury hazard!

  • Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.
  NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE 
  Damage to the spindle drive.
  If the trunk lid is not opened completely, the spindle drive may be damaged.

  • Remove and install the spindle drive only when the Trunk lid is open to the maximum extent.

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
• Disassemble ball sockets.

  Observe disassembly sequence: 

  1. Push clamp (1) in the direction of the arrow with a screwdriver.
  2. Lift the ball socket (2) off of the ball hub.
  3. Push back the clamp (1).
• Loosen the spindle drive (3) at the trunk lid and swing it downwards.
  NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE 
  Mechanical effects.
  Paint damage.

  • Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
  • Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.

• Slowly lower the trunk lid.

  Make sure that the spindle driver is not damaged.

  Make sure that the striker is not engaged in the trunk lid lock. If necessary, cover the trunk lid lock.

• Loosen the screws (1) and remove the trunk lid.
