Removing Both Tailgate Hinges

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVE BATTERY COVER .
• Refer to REMOVING THE LOADING EDGE TRIM .
• Refer to 61 21 BATTERY WITH HOLDER .

• Fold the insulation (1) to the side.
• Remove the seal plug (2).

• Release the nuts (1) and remove the hinge (2).

• When replacing hinge:

  Right hinge half: Disassemble the ball socket.

  Observe disassembly sequence: 

  1. Push clamp (1) in the direction of the arrow with a screwdriver.
  2. Lift the ball socket (2) off of the ball hub.
  3. Push back the clamp (1).
• Loosen screws (3).

• Release the screws (1) and remove the hinge halves (2) from the lower section of tailgate.
