Installing The Roof Outer Skin

• Pre-clean the bonding surfaces (marked yellow) on the vehicle and on the new part with the solvent cleaner R2.

• Fill all flange sections (1) on the front convertible top bow with adhesive K5 and smooth out. (level compensation)
• On both step increments (2), apply a 25-mm long adhesive bead K5 on the left and right and smooth out. (level compensation)
• Apply adhesive so that all flange sections and step increments form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• Apply adhesive so that all flange sections form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• At the rear convertible top bow on the outer step increments (1), apply one 60 mm long adhesive bead with adhesive K5 on the left and right and smooth out. (level compensation)
• On both step increments (2), apply a 25-mm long adhesive bead K5 on the left and right and smooth out. (level compensation)
• Apply adhesive so that all flange sections and step increments form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• Apply the sealant D2 onto the bonding surfaces (marked yellow) analogously to the series.

• With a support person, place the roof outer skin evenly and centrally on the vehicle and adjust to fit.

• Position and tighten the bolts (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
  
  

  Roof outer skin to roof frame
  Oval-head self-tapping screw
  	tightening torque 3.0 Nm

• Position the bolts M6, nuts and washers at the mounting holes (1) of the roof rails. Hand-tighten the screw connections.
• Do not remove the screw connections until the adhesive has hardened.

• In area (1), rivet the roof outer skin with 10 punch rivets N5.
• Install the punch rivets on suitable areas (2) only.

• Rivet the roof outer skin with the punch rivets N5 in areas (1) to (4).

• Level out leaked adhesive in the area (1) at all 4 corners of the roof outer skin (2) by spreading.

  Do not leave any sharp edges as this may compromise the tightness of the subsequent windshield and rear window bonding.

• Spread excess adhesive in roof trim strip channel.

  While doing so, the mounting surfaces of roof trim strip mounting elements may not be coated with adhesive.

• Remove excess adhesive. For that do not use any cleaning agent or solvent!

  Installing the EMC screw 

• Drill the hole with a diameter of 4.2 mm after the adhesive completely hardens.
• Screw in the EMC screw.
• Seal the EMC screw with the sealant.

• After the adhesive has hardened, install an EMC screw according to the dimension (a).

  Sealing the roof outer skin

  NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.
• Seal the roof outer skin on both roof frames with sealant (1), in line with standard production.
