Installing The Roof Outer Skin

• Pre-clean the bonding surfaces (marked yellow) on the vehicle and the new part with a cleaning agent R2.

• Clean bonding surfaces (marked yellow) on the vehicle and on the new part with a cleaning agent R1.

• Apply sealant D2 in the areas marked in yellow similar to the series.

• On the front convertible top brace, top up all the flange recesses (1) with adhesive K5 and smooth it. (level compensation)
• On both step increments, (2) left and right, apply a 25 mm long adhesive bead and smooth out. (level compensation)

  Apply adhesive so that all flange sections and step increments form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• At the left and right roof frames, top up all the flange recesses (1) with adhesive K5 and make them smooth (level adjustment).

  Apply adhesive so that all flange sections form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• On the rear convertible top brace on the outer gradations (1) on the left and right, apply a 60 mm long adhesive bead with adhesive K5 and smooth it. (level compensation)
• On both step increments (2) left and right, apply a 25 mm long adhesive bead and smooth out (levelling).

  Apply adhesive so that all flange sections and step increments form one level for the remaining bonding surface.

• Apply adhesive K5 on the bonding surfaces (marked in yellow).
• Place roof outer skin with helpers evenly and centrally on vehicle and adjust to fit.

• Secure the roof outer skin with the bolts M6, nuts and washers at the mounting holes (1) of the roof rails. Hand-tighten the screw connections.

  Do not remove the screw connections until the adhesive has hardened.

• In area (1), rivet the roof outer skin with 10 punch rivets N5.

• In areas (1) to (5) rivet the roof outer skin with punch rivets N5.

• Level out leaked adhesive in the area (1) at all 4 corners of the roof outer skin (2) by spreading.

  Do not leave any sharp edges as this may compromise the tightness of the subsequent windshield and rear window bonding.

• Spread excess adhesive in roof trim strip channel. While doing so, the mounting surfaces of roof trim strip mounting elements may not be coated with adhesive.
• Remove excess adhesive. For that do not use any cleaning agent or solvent!

  Installing the EMC screw 

• Drill the hole with a diameter of 4.2 mm after the adhesive completely hardens.
• Screw in the EMC screw.
• Seal the EMC screw with the sealant.

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the left and right side.
• Install an EMC screw in accordance with dimension a after the adhesive has hardened.

  Dimension (a) = about 45 mm from the center point of the mounting bore of the roof rails.

  Sealing the roof outer skin 

  NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details.
• Seal the roof outer skin on both roof frames with sealant (1), in line with standard production.
