Installing all oxygen sensors
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Grease the threads of new oxygen sensors thinly and evenly.
For oxygen sensors that are reused, the following should be observed:
Thinly and evenly grease the oxygen sensor on the thread only. Do not clean the part of the oxygen sensor that does not protrude into the exhaust line (sensor ceramics) and do not grease.

- Prepare the oxygen sensor.
The sensor ceramics must not be damaged.

.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oxygen sensor monitor on catalytic converter M18X1.5 Tightening torque 50 Nm - Release the clamp (1) with a standard tool (2).
- Insert and install the holder (3).
- Tighten the screws (2).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Catalytic converter holder to automatic transmission switch M8X20 Tightening torque 19 Nm - Replace nuts (1).

Holder for catalytic converter, cylinders 4 to 6 M8
Replace nuts.Tightening torque 19 Nm - Guide in and install the positive battery cable (2) into the clamp (3).
- Tighten the nut (1) hand-tight.CAUTION: Improper routing of the positive battery cable.
Risk of short circuits!- Route the positive battery cable without abrasions and do not trap.
NOTE: Schematic diagram is for example purposes. Some parts may differ in certain details. - Attach the positive battery cable (1) correctly to anti-twist lock (2).
- Tighten nut (3).
- Feed in and install the heat shield (2).
- Tighten nuts (1).
- Feed the connector (1) into the carrier plate in the arrow direction and install it.
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
- Position the carrier plate (2).
- Tighten the screws (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oxygen sensor bracket to cylinder head cover Self-tapping screw M6 Tightening torque 5.5 Nm - Connect connectors (1) and lock.
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
- Screw in the primary oxygen sensor (1) for cylinders 1 to 3 with special tool 0 491 074 (11 7 020)
and hand-tighten it.
- Tighten the Lambda oxygen sensor (1) for cylinders 1 to 3 with special tool 0 491 074 (11 7 020)
.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Lambda oxygen sensor on catalytic converter M18X1.5 Tightening torque 50 Nm - Fasten cable (1) in clamps (arrows).
- Connect connectors (1) and lock.
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
- Insert and install the connector (1) in the carrier plate.
The locks (arrows) must engage audibly.
- Check the heat shield (1) for damage and replace if necessary.
- Feed in and install the heat shield (1).
- Tighten the screws (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Heat shield to cylinder head M8X17.5
Replace screws.Tightening torque 10 Nm - Screw in the primary oxygen sensor (1) for cylinders 4 to 6 with the special tool 0 491 075 (11 7 030)
and the special tool 0 493 751 (11 9 150)
and hand-tighten it.
- Tighten the primary oxygen sensor (1) for cylinders 4 to 6 with special tool 0 491 075 (11 7 030)
and special tool 0 493 751 (11 9 150)
.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Lambda oxygen sensor on catalytic converter M18X1.5 Tightening torque 50 Nm - Secure the clamp (1).
- Secure the cable (1) in the clamps (3).
- Secure the cable (1) in the holder (2).
- Insert and install the connector (1) in the carrier plate.
The locks (arrows) must engage audibly.
- Connect connectors (1) and lock.
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
- Feed the positive battery cables (2) into the clamps (4) and install them.
- Feed the positive battery cables (2) into the remote positive terminal (3) and install.
- Tighten nuts (1).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Battery positive lead to battery positive terminal M8 Tightening torque 19 Nm - Feed in and install the cover (2) in the arrow direction.
The locks (1) must engage audibly.
- Screw in the monitoring oxygen sensor (1) for the cylinders 1 to 3 with the special tool 0 491 074 (11 7 020)
and hand-tighten it.
- Tighten the monitoring oxygen sensor (1) for the cylinders 1 to 3 with the special tool 0 491 074 (11 7 020)
.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oxygen sensor monitor on catalytic converter M18X1.5 Tightening torque 50 Nm - Guide in heat shield (2) in the arrow direction and install.
- Replace the cable ties (1).
Parts: Cable tie
- Feed in and install the cable tie (1).
- Fasten the heat shield (1) in the clamp (2).
- Fasten cable (1) in clamps (arrows).
- Feed the connector (1) into the carrier plate in the arrow direction and install it.
The lock (1) must engage audibly.
- Feed in and install the connector (1).
The connector (1) must engage audibly.
- Check the seal (1) for damage and replace if necessary.

Replacing the damaged seal
NOTE:
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Use of sharp or pointy tools for installation or removal is prohibited.

- Remove damaged seal.
- Clean the gasket groove (1) with a dry cloth.
The gasket groove (1) must be clean.
- Replace gasket.

- Install the seal dry without lubricant or mounting agent.NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Incorrect assembly is possible. Ensure correct installation position. - Thread in seal and install.
- Make sure that the seal is installed correctly in the gasket groove (1).
- Make sure that the sealing lip (2) is directed to the inside as shown.
- Detach locks (1) from the holders in the arrow direction.
- Guide in the clean air pipe (2) for cylinders 4 through 6 and install it.
- Ensure that the locks (1) audibly lock.
- Guide in the right air routing (2) in the arrow direction and install it.
The clamps (1) must snap in audibly.
