31 60 003 Removing and installing/replacing left output shaft
Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove FRONT WHEEL .
Removal:
If installed: Remove protective cap (1).
Release collar bolt (1), press brake pedal to floor to do so.
Turn steering wheel to left.
Pull output shaft (1) out towards front.
Use a mounting lever (2) to lever the output shaft (1) out of the transmission.
Remove output shaft (1).
Installation:
- Lever out O-ring (1).
- Replace O-ring.

- Insert new O-ring (1).

A Automatic transmission
Replace circlip.
Insert output shaft (1) into gearbox.
Turn steering wheel to left.
Insert output shaft (1) from the front into the pivot bearing.
- Pay attention to installation position of compression spring (2).
- Keep collar bolt and spur gearing of wheel bearing/output shaft clean and free of grease.
Replace collar bolt with compression spring.

Tighten the collar bolt (1) with the compression spring hand-tight.
- Spur gearing of wheel bearing (1) and output shaft (2) must be installed form-fit (tooth in tooth position)!
Check whether spur gearing is locked tooth in tooth by reciprocally rotating wheel hub/output shaft.
If positive locking is ensured, tighten the collar bolt with tightening torque (for this, press brake pedal to the floor).
Tightening torque 31 60 2AZ
Thinly grease the wheel hub in area (1).
Do not install the protective cap.
If necessary, attach protective cap (1).
Required follow-up work:
- Check transmission for leaks.
- Install FRONT WHEEL .
