Fixing the engine in the installation position on cylinder 1
- Position special tool 0 496 366 (11 8 570) (3) on the vibration absorber.
- Hand-tighten the special tool 0 496 366 (11 8 570) (3) with a screw (2) of the belt pulley on the vibration absorber.
- Position the special tool 0 493 882 (11 9 190)
(1) in the special tool 0 496 366 (11 8 570)
(3).
The special tool 0 493 882 (11 9 190) (1) must not be inserted too far otherwise other components may be damaged when turning the crankshaft.
- Position reversible ratchet.
- Rotate the engine on the central bolt clockwise until the special tool lines up with the engine block marks.
- Slide the crankshaft in the installation position with the special tool 0 493 882 (11 9 190) (1) at the marks and fix it.
NOTE:
To provide a better overview: Schematic diagram with partially hidden components.
- Make sure the ground surfaces (2) point up.
- Make sure that the rounded surfaces (1) point downwards to the cylinder head.
Check
- Check the camshaft positions of bank 1.
The cams (1) must be in the position shown.
The increment wheels (2) must align with the exhaust camshaft bearing cap and the intake camshaft bearing cap.
The ground surfaces of the camshafts should be facing upward.
Result
» The camshaft position is correct.
Measure
- Continue the repair with the next step.
Result
» The camshaft position is incorrect.
Measure
- Disassemble special tools 0 496 366 (11 8 570) and 0 493 882 (11 9 190) and remove.
Measure
- Turn engine on the central bolt of the crankshaft by 360° until the installation position (MP) of the vibration absorber align with the marks of the engine block.
Measure
- Fix the engine in TDC setting with the special tools 0 496 366 (11 8 570) and 0 493 882 (11 9 190) again.
