General information on sticking on adhesive films
In the event of repairs, adhesive films must be partially or completely replaced. The basic procedure for all areas of the vehicle is described below.
Vehicle-specific repair instructions are also available.
- Preparation:
Wash and dry vehicle. If necessary, rework in the area of joints with compressed air.
Clean the entire component surface with glass cleaner (BMW part number 83 12 0 396 775). Also clean the inside of the component in areas where adhesive films are stuck on.
Only carry out all work with clean hands!
Attention!
Newly painted component can only have adhesive films applied after a waiting time of 2 weeks . Only then is the hardening of the paint completely finished.
- Sticking procedure:
All adhesive films in the repair kit are marked with numbers. Prepare the necessary films before starting the repair.
The templates included in the repair kit are for orientation. A straight line across various components has top priority.
Remove the templates after positioning the adhesive films.
Do not throw away stencils until you have finished all work, as stencils are sometimes used several times.
Templates are always glued along the light edge (1). The light edge is the reflection of the light source in the radius (see arrow).
Roughly align the adhesive film using the template.
For larger adhesive films, remove the protective film from the first 20 cm and fold over with sharp edges.
Align the adhesive film and press down lightly. Only use one finger, not your whole hand, to avoid air pockets under the adhesive films.
Pull off the remaining protective film and press the adhesive films on from the front to the back and from the inside to the outside.
The basic procedure for all areas of the vehicle is described below. When no more corrections need to be made, press down the adhesive film firmly from the inside out with a squeegee.
Lay the protruding ends of the adhesive film around the edge of the component and press firmly.
Carefully pull off the backing film (1) at an acute angle.
