Remove B-Pillar With Reinforcement
- Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the dimension.
Dimension (a) = 70 mm from the center of the hinge mount
- Cut through B-pillar completely. Do not damage the inner side member in doing so.NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic body parts damages.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic body parts may not be damaged under any circumstance.- Carry out separation cut only on outer component. Do not tap the underlying component.
- While removing the adhesive, do not tap the underlying component.
- Mark and perform the separating cuts in accordance with the specified dimensions.
Thereby disconnect only the outer panel.
Dimension (a) = 80 mm from the center of the mounting.
Dimension (b) = 400 mm from dimension a
Dimension (c) = 15 mm from the component edge to the roof frame
- Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the schematic diagram.
Cut through the B-pillar completely.
- Release welded connections in areas (2).
- Release and remove the section (3) from the cavity sealings.
- Remove the cavity sealing (1).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The cavity sealing is replaced by HS3 cavity foam upon installation. - Check the areas (2) for visible damages on the CFRP pipe (3), replace CFRP pipe if necessary.
- Completely remove the cavity sealing in the area (1). In the area (1), joining is done on the inside via welding.
- Gradually release the blind rivet connections (1) with a belt sander.
Ensure that temperatures on the CFRP pipe will not be too high; cool the blind rivets with compressed air, if necessary.
- Push the rest of the blind rivets through the CFRP pipe.
- Use the rivet holes to fill the CFRP pipe with cavity foam HS3 to prevent the remaining parts of the blind rivets from rattling.
- Release welded connections in areas (1).
- Tape off the CFRP pipe (1) with aluminum adhesive tape.
- Mark and perform the separating cuts (2) in accordance with the schematic diagram.
While carrying out the separating cuts, ensure that the CFRP pipe does not get damaged.
- Apply aluminum foil (1) to the reinforcement of the B-pillar (2) according to the schematic diagram.
Apply the aluminum foil in such a way that there is clearance (4) between the CFRP pipe (3) and the aluminum foil itself.
NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
CFRP body part damage.
The influence of excessive heat may lead to CFRP body part damage.- Avoid the application of heat on CFRP body parts. Do not exceed the maximum permitted temperature of 120°C for a period of 5 minutes.
- Heat up the bonded connections (1) until the adhesive can be removed.
Do not heat up the CFRP pipe in this process.
Heating by means of flame of butane gas: approx. 1 to 2 min
Heating by means of hot air blower with 500 to 600°C: Approx. 4 min
- Remove the reinforcement of the B-pillar (2) from the CFRP pipe using locking pliers and applying heat at the same time.
Keep the locking pliers under slight tension only in order to prevent damaging the CFRP pipe.
- Open the welded connections in the area (1) and remove the B-pillar section (2).
- Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the dimension.
Dimension (a) = 125 mm from the recess in the side member
- Open welded connections in area (2).
- Release the spot-welded adhesive joints in area (3).
- Observe the position of the cavity sealings (4).
- Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the dimension.
Dimension (a) = 95 mm from the recess in the side member
- Open welded connections in area (2).
- Release the spot-welded adhesive joints in area (4).
- Release and remove the side member from the cavity sealings (3) and the bonded connection (5).
- Front door sill:
Mark separating cut for sill reinforcement plate (2) according to dimension.
Dimension (a) = 125 mm from the separating edge of the outer side sill
- Carry out the marking for the separating cut in a way inner surface (3) of the inner side sill (4).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
For additional accessibility, an aperture needs to be cut out for this separating cut.
The removed aperture is reused upon installation. - Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the specified dimensions.
Dimension (a) = 10 mm from the component edge of the inner side sill
Select dimension (b) depending on the cutting tool.
- Remove aperture (2).
(3) = mark for the separating cut on the sill reinforcement plate
- Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the specified dimensions.
Dimension (a) = 15 mm from the component edge of the inner side sill
Select dimension (b) depending on the cutting tool.
- Remove aperture (2).
(3) = mark for the separating cut on the sill reinforcement plate
- Perform separating cut (1) on the sill reinforcement plate (2) in accordance with the previous marking.
Do not damage the inner side sill (3) during this process.
- If appropriate, make the separating cut with a pneumatic angle grinder.
- Rear sill:
Mark the separating cut (1) on the sill reinforcement plate (2) according to dimension.
Dimension (a) = 55 mm from the recess (3)
- Carry out the marking for the separating cut in a way that the separating cut is on the same level as the inner surface (4) of the inner side sill (5).NOTE: TECHNICAL INFORMATION
For additional accessibility, an aperture needs to be cut out for this separating cut.
The removed aperture is reused upon installation. - Mark and perform the separating cut (1) in accordance with the specified dimensions.
