SERVICE INFORMATION

This Service Information Bulletin (Revision 1) replaces SI B17 02 22 dated June 2022. 

What's New  (Specific text highlighted):

SITUATION

Coolant is leaking from under the car which is equipped with the S63 engine. A low coolant warning might also be displayed (CC Message ID166).

CAUSE

Chemical/thermal reaction with the plastic material of the expansion tank and coolant.

CORRECTION

Drain all the coolant from the engine, replace the expansion tank; and fill with new coolant.

PROCEDURE

NOTE: There are specific instructions for the expansion tank replacement based on model. These instructions must be followed  to ensure that coolant does not leak onto the fuel injectors during replacement of the expansion tank.

PARTS INFORMATION

Obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in either ETK or AIR which takes into account specific equipment and/or options.

Additionally, other materials and small parts that are not specified above, such as fluids, lubricants, one-time use screws, nuts, and seals, which must be replaced or installed according to the ISTA repair instructions/ETK, must be selected from the Electronic Parts Catalog, or other approved BMW resources, according to the respective vehicle type. Invoiced these items separately under the Recall repair Defect Code listed in this bulletin.

CLAIM INFORMATION

Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks, or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program.

Defect Code: 1711900100 F9x S63 Expansion tank, radiator, high-temperature circuit leaking

Refer to AIR for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.

Only one Main work flat rate labor operation code can be claimed per workshop visit. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 71 721 instead of 00 71 204.

CLAIM REPAIR COMMENTS

Only reference the SIB number and the work package (Pkg) number performed in the RO technician notes and the claim comments (For example: B17 02 22 WP 1), unless otherwise required by State law.

SUBLET - BULK MATERIAL

Sublet Code 4  See the sublet reimbursement calculations below Reimbursement for the repair-related bulk material (PN 82 14 1 467 704 or 83 19 2 468 442 only, do not use these part numbers for claim submission)

Sublet reimbursement calculation for claiming the applicable repair-related bulk material (BMW part number) is at the dealer net price for the quantity used plus your center's handling.

BMW Antifreeze/Coolant: For the one-gallon concentrate part numbers, the quantity for a 50/50 coolant/water solution. Claim the corresponding sublet dollar amount for the quantity needed to replace what was drained.

Enter this material cost in sublet and itemize the amount on the repair order and in claim comment section.

OTHER REPAIRS

If other eligible and covered work is performed because of diagnosing the cooling system, claim this work with the applicable defect code and the labor operations that are listed in AIR (including the applicable diagnosis*).

*Based on which one applies to your center, please refer to SI B01 01 20 or B01 07 20 for the applicable procedure for documenting, claiming, and explaining, on the RO and in the claim comments, your diagnosis work time (WT), job/repair work time (WT), and the vehicle repairs your center performed, unless otherwise required by State law.
