Removing the gas pressure spring for tailgate

CAUTION: Shutting hood or trunk lid .
Injury hazard!

Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.

NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.

Support hood/trunk lid in fully open position with the aid of a suitable device.

Disassemble the ball sockets.
Observe disassembly sequence:
1. Push on the clamp (1) with a screwdriver in arrow direction.
2. Lift the ball socket (2) off of the ball hub.
3. Push back the clamp (1).
Remove the gas pressure spring (3).
