Removing and installing (replacing) rear bumper panel (2016-2022)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove both REAR LIGHTS .

Release screws (1) on wheel arch cover (2) on left/right.

Fold back wheel arch cover (1).

Release screw (2).

Tightening torque 51 12 4AZ .

Loosen screws (1).

Removing: 

1. Starting in area (2), carefully disengage individual guide tabs on left and right.
2. Repeat process for area (3).
3. Pull bumper panel (1) straight towards rear with aid of a second person.
4. Disconnect all plug connections.
5. Remove the bumper.

installation note: 

Latch mechanisms and guides (1) must not be damaged or missing.

If necessary, replace faulty sheet metal nuts left/right.

Replacement (depending on equipment): 

• Remount rear reflectors
• Remount the cover for the towing eye
• Remount the number plate
• Punch holes for ultrasonic sensors
• Install holder for ultrasonic sensors
• CHANGE OVER THE COVER ON THE BUMPER TRIM PANEL .
