Adjusting The Tailgate Hinges

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVING TRUNK COMPARTMENT LIGHT ON TRUNK LID .
• Refer to REMOVE THE POWER TAILGATE SWITCH .
• Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
• Refer to REMOVE STRIKER FOR THE TAILGATE LATCH .
• Refer to REMOVING THE COVER FOR THE WATER CHANNEL .
• Refer to CLOSING THE TRUNK LID LOCK .
• Refer to CLOSE REAR LID .

Check 

• Check the gap dimensions (arrows) between trunk lid and side panels.

  Measure

  • Adjust tailgate hinge.

  Opening convertible top compartment lid 

  Precondition 

  Tailgate is closed.

  CAUTION: Folding up of convertible top through loss of pressure in hydraulic cylinders  .
  Injury hazard! Injury hazard by trapping! 

  • When carrying out all repair work, secure soft top and soft top compartment lid with a suitable support tool against collapsing. Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.

• Move the convertible top (1) into the shown position.

  The convertible top (1) must be closed.

• Make sure the convertible top cover is (2) completely open.
• Make sure the convertible top (1) is no longer locked in area (3).
• Switch off ignition.

  The convertible top system will be depressurized after approx. 7 min and can then be manually moved.

  NOTE: To make the convertible top system depressurize faster: Long press the audio button. The convertible top system is then depressurized after just a few seconds.
  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Slacken nuts (1) and (2) until tailgate hinge (2) can be moved.
• Move tailgate hinge (2) vertically until the tailgate has the predefined gap dimension from the adjacent components.
• Tighten nuts (1) and (2).

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Tailgate hinge to body
  Nut M8
  	tightening torque	19 Nm

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Angle bracket on tailgate hinge
  Nut M8
  	tightening torque	19 Nm

• Close the convertible top compartment lid.
• Check gap dimensions.
• If applicable, repeat the adjustment procedure.
